American McGee's Oz

Designer / Previsualization Artist - Third-Person Adventure (XBox, PC)

As a designer on American McGee's Oz, I was responsible for creating the very complex spell system that broke the mold of traditional casting systems. My specific daily tasks involved conceptualizing the basics of the system, creating the art assets, creating the object-oriented scripts, and tying it all together with the rest of the game's UI.

My previsualization work also took me in a different direction as I used my training in film to mockup scenes for the entire intro cinematic as well as other minor cutscenes. Both the cutscenes and the spell art were a bit of a challenge because of the unique art style that American was going for. With out spoiling it too much, it was a world of "cardboard cutouts come to life."

Unfortunately, the project was canceled by the publisher and may never be picked back up. American has since opened up a new studio, Spicy Horse in Shanghai.
